Biography

Richard L. Doxey is an associate of the Firm, practicing primarily in business and commercial litigation, real estate law, landlord-tenant law, bankruptcy law, and creditor and debtor law.

Originally from Provo, Utah, Rich graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in History and minor in Communications. Prior to attending law school, Rich interned at the American Legislative Exchange Council where he helped create model legislation for state legislatures. Rich received his Juris Doctorate from the William S. Boyd School of law at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2004 and was a member of the honorary William S. Boyd School of Law Society of Advocates. Rich excelled in law school and drafted a regional finalist appellate brief for the Society of Advocates competition.

Prior to joining Hutchison & Steffen, Rich worked at a litigation firm in Las Vegas, Nevada, where his practice primarily focused on real estate, business, landlord/tenant, and commercial law. He also has extensive bankruptcy experience in which he has represented creditors and debtors in and out of bankruptcy. Rich has represented a wide variety of clients in trials, appeals, arbitrations, mediations, and landlord/tenant disputes. Rich is admitted to practice in both federal and state courts in Nevada.

Personal Background

In his free time, Rich loves to spend time with his wife and family. He enjoys sports, woodworking, mountain biking, and reading newspapers.

Representative Engagements

  • Rich has successfully tried several cases in state court and adversary proceeding in bankruptcy court. He has also successfully represented clients in numerous arbitrations.
  • A one-week jury trial involving a construction contract dispute where the Plaintiffs were seeking a verdict in closing argument in excess of $300,000 and the jury returned a verdict in favor of Rich's client with $0.00 damages. Christopher v. Master Excavators Inc. et al. Case No. A563776 (Dept. 11, Las Vegas, Nev., 2010).
  • Served as secondary counsel in a business dispute where the Plaintiff was seeking to pierce the corporate veil. Judge ruled in favor of Rich's client with a published opinion that upheld the corporate veil. AE Rest. Assocs., LLC v. Giampietro (In re Giampietro), 317 B.R. 841 (Bankr. D. Nev. 2004)
  • Served as co-appellate counsel in real estate commission dispute in which the Nevada Supreme Court reversed the District Court with a published opinion in favor Rich's client. See Easton Bus. Opportunities, Inc. v. Town Exec. Suites, 230 P.3d 827 (Nev. 2010)
