Erin Lee Truman is Of Counsel with the Firm, practicing primarily in insurance defense litigation and serving as head of the Firm’s Alternative Dispute Resolution Department.
Erin attended Brigham Young University as a Trustee Scholar. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting, with a minor in Business Management, from Brigham Young University’s Marriott School of Management in 1988. She earned the degree of Juris Doctor from J. Reuben Clark Law School in 1991.
During law school, Erin was a member of the Moot Court Board of Advocates from 1989 to 1991. She served as First Year Competition Editor in 1991. She also had the honor of working as a research assistant for Professor W. Cole Durham, Jr., for the article, “The Law of Computer-Related Crime in the United States,” by W. Cole Durham, Jr., and Russell C. Skousen, published in The American Journal of Comparative Law, Volume 38 (1990), pp 557-580.
Erin also had the opportunity of working during law school as a Summer Associate with the Las Vegas law firm of Beckley, Singleton, DeLanoy, Jemison & List, Chtd. During the summers of 1990 and 1991, Erin concentrated her work in the areas of insurance law, employment law, tax law, construction law, and mass tort litigation.
Following law school, Erin practiced with the Las Vegas, Nevada, law firm of Edwards, Hunt, Hale & Hansen, Ltd. Erin represented individuals, corporations, and government entities in actions involving insurance law, construction law, and general civil litigation.
Before joining Hutchison and Steffen, Erin was counsel for Allstate Insurance Company, the nation’s largest publicly held personal lines insurer, and Encompass Insurance. During Erin’s 14 years with Allstate, she represented hundreds of individuals and corporations insured by Allstate and Encompass in all phases of civil litigation. Erin also successfully defended the companies in uninsured and under-insured motorist actions brought by first-party insured litigants. Erin acted as Lead Counsel for Nevada. In that capacity, she managed the Allstate Insurance Company and Encompass Insurance Staff Counsel litigation office and employees in Las Vegas, Nevada. She also presented numerous in-house training seminars on litigation and insurance law.
Erin and her husband, Rod, enjoy spending time with their two children. Erin enjoys traveling, cooking, and entertaining friends and family. She is active in her church and volunteers her time with several local children’s organizations.
